New Players

Experienced New Players.

New players are always welcome with Kumeu Brass.

If you are a competent brass player by all means come for a blow at our Monday night rehearsal in the Band room or contact us here through the Contact Us page

Alternatively, turn up on Thursday at 2pm for an informal blow with the Old [Fellas] Ensemble. They have some experienced players, and have been organising their own occasional playouts too.

Learners Group

Objective:

"To run a training programme that provides beginner brass players with a full and complete musical education".
"To cater for players from beginner level until they are sufficiently competent and confident to be incorporated into the main band".

Tutors for the programme.
Carolyn Ramsbottom is the Director of Training, and runs the learners' band, as well as being a tutor. She is assisted by several other members of the band, providing individual tuition, theory lessons, and assistance at the weekly rehearsals.

Individual Lessons:
Individual lessons are provided for all members of the programme at a time arranged between the student and tutors.
Lessons are approx. ½ an hour long and are given at the bandroom. They consist of technique training, musical interpretation and follow a tutorial book, as well as work on band music where needed. Students may sit Royal Schools or Trinity College practical exams if desired.

Theory Component:
A half-hour theory lesson takes place at 7:00 on Friday nights in the bandroom.
If students are found to be at significantly different stages of understanding, individual students or small groups will be assisted by Carolyn.
The theory lessons cover all aspects of musical theory, following a similar format to Royal Schools. Worksheets, games and other interactive activities are used as required. A small amount of weekly theory homework in worksheet form is given. Students may sit theory exams if desired.

Learners Band:
The Learners Band runs from 7.30 - 8.30 on Friday nights (after the theory lesson). The Band is conducted by Carolyn, and players are assisted by other senior band members.
The group encourages personal musical growth by learning a varied range of music, with musicality as a large focus, as well as stressing the essentials of group playing..

If you or someone in your family would like to join the learners group, please contact:
Carolyn Ramsbottom email: training@kumeubrass.org.nz or any member of the band.
